New long-haul service for Stansted Airport

Stansted Airport has announced the launch of a new long-haul service to Canada, potentially making Canadian holidays more accessible for travellers based in the south of the UK.

A new low-cost connection from airline Flyglobespan is to start at the Essex-based airport this week, offering direct flights to Toronto's Hamilton Airport.

One-way economy fares will start from £99 and business class fares from £204, with the airport predicting that the flights will be popular with both tourists and business visitors.

Nick Barton, BAA Stansted business development and planning director, said that the airport had already seen success with long-haul destinations aimed at those on American holidays - such as New York, Las Vegas and Washington - with future connections to Asia also planned.

Mr Barton commented: "Expansion of long-haul is firmly on our agenda so we're delighted to see Flyglobespan start long-haul daily flights linking Stansted to Toronto's Hamilton airport in Canada."

In addition, travellers on Turkey holidays will be able to benefit from a new direct service from Stansted to Izmir from airline SunExpress, with onward connections to Ercan in Northern Cyprus available for those staying in Cyprus hotels.
